Leadership is an important part of being a successful educator. Teachers, administrators, and district leaders need to have certain leadership qualities in order to transform schools into what they need to be. There are six skills that I personally believe all educators need to acquire, those skills can be easily remembered by using the acronym L.E.A.D.E.R
L- Listener- Educators need to possess the skill of being a good listener. All types of educators will be faced with times in which they will need to listen to students, coworkers, and parents. Our first initial instinct is to speak our mind. Successful leaders are able to conquer that instinct and learn to listen to others before they speak.
E- Encourager- Educators must learn to encourage their students and faculty. Students need to be encouraged in order to be successful. From the supervisor standpoint, supervisors must encourage their faculty to be the best that they can be at all times. If educators do not encourage they risk having their students and faculty become stagnate academically and professionally.
A- Attitude- All educators must constantly possess a positive attitudes. Students feed off of their teachers attitude. If the teacher comes in with a bad attitude every day then students will likely follow their teachers lead. Negative attitudes can also bring the school environment down. In order to promote a positive school culture teachers and supervisors must have a positive attitude during all types of situations. Try to make something good come from every situation. This type of attitude will reflect on students and faculty members.
D- Determination
E- Empowerment
R- Responsibility
